STO: Hello Mr. space bar

My wife is really starting to not like STO. Mainly for having to spam the Space bar every time I want to fire. And I want to fire ALOT.

I mention to my wife about the new 1.1 patch having the spacebar turn on auto-fire. She says I am now allowed back in the bedroom!

I was thinking that when I hit level cap I would get bored of the game. But I have found that I still enjoy doing 15 minute mini-missions.

That and it is a much slower paced. HEHE, well nothing can get much slower then mining. So what I mean is there is no pressure since there is a very weak death penalty.

A friend of my wifes, and now mine, started asking questions about STO and Eve. I filled him in the best I could (there is alot of info that gets convoluted in EVE). I did have a free 10 day trail card from my SE STO box. He likes it so much, he is willing to sell his WOW account on craigslist. I was a little stunned, I didnt think STO was that powerful.

He must be playing the federation side

Ding! General 3

Hmm, I guess first off that the bug for completing 1/3 of the cardassians mission for captain does not carry over to admiral.

Second, since swapping out the beam arrays (250 degrees ) from the turrents (360 degrees ) my survivabilty has gone up tremendously.

Third, after that one patrol mission I have just done exploration of star clusters.

Four, I have finally been doing away missions. And I encountered a problem with my bridge officers. While many people have different designs on their BOs. I decided to have an all female crew. And since I have access to the Orion race. 1 + 1 = fantasy. Well over the course of gathering my crew I haven't really cared for what they are wearing. After the 3rd ( last ) ground mission, the next time I  was at the home world I decided to change that.

I followed common Star Trek coloring. But also change the outfits enough for quick recognition.

For tactical - I wanted purple, but that option wasn't there. So I chose red instead. And for ease I chose wing tip shoulder pads.

For engineering - I went tan with small shoulder pads and a sash for distinction.

Lastly, science was blue with no upper items.

Hopefully this will help me on the ground.

Finally, I started earning dailies for getting the purple ( ultra rare ) items to outfit my characters and ships.

Season 1

Well the first upgrade to STO was interesting.

There is still a small klingon population.  Makes it easier to run around on.

They changed to transportation beam to something more klingon.

And they added when you have the maximum number of ships you can own. Which I had but did not know that I hit the limit.

Funny, but I  had to redo the promotion to Captain again. Not difficult, just weird that they threw it in there.

Was given an off duty clothing slot. But they gave no new options on clothing. That means I just changed colors and my sash.

Upgraded my personal armor and weapons. Just incase I actually beam to down to a planet.

The bridge is intresting,  my bridge officers are now at their stations along with a few others that I didn't want. Atleast there is no more federation people working on my bridge.

So with all the new star clusters to go see and areas to explore - what do I decide to do......  Go back and finish the cardassians grind. It's my OCD, but I hate leaving quests half done. The good news there is that I had 2/3rds left to do but after 1 set, it said I was completed. I didn't complain.

Jumped onto a star cluster, lots of max characters out there. First off : To destroy 5 federation wrecks, but they are guarded by the Borg. I was 3/5 done when the game locked up. On my second go around it was : to destroy 6 sets of federation vessels. Note : the battleships are no longer weaken like patrol missions. This lead to some nasty fights. Still I got that one done, and I am close to C7 now. Great change of pace.

  2 bugs I reported :
1) if you look at your rank it used to tell you how many skill points you needed to advance. Now it says 0.

 2) the LCARS no longer shows for any vessel that is in front of you. Only the ones on the side.  Man I hope this is a bug and not the way they want it.

Head 'em up and Move 'em out

Quapla' !!!

Made captain 6 a couple of days ago. And had another 2 days of Blood of Khaless not bothering to talk to me. But yesterday, I did get a grunt to pop up in the welcome center. He was suprised at the way BoK was greeting new members.

Now this next part is what struck me, he mentioned that BoK was turning away from STO and looking to a new mmo coming out called Earth Rise. Seems they had high hopes for Star Trek, but the Klingon delivery has just been horrible.

I went to look at Jupiter Invasion Force - the Klingon side of Jupiter Broadcasting. And while I saw 1 article about forming it. It doesn't appear again. My concern with JIF is that it is the red head step child of Jupiter Fleet and not taken seriously. Under funded and under used, more like a place they can dress up and fly birds of prey for a few minutes then anything long term.

This next expansion coming out better help. Cause believe it or not, people are leaving STO in droves.

And another thing...

Small rant today.

   Made Captain - 4 yesterday.

While I do enjoy watching STOked at jupiterbrodcasting.com. I gotta say I wanna strangle Chris half the time. Maybe he is an eternal optimist. But the reivews of STO have been right so far.

Star Trek Online is not a richly rewarding game. My guess is, if Chris did play pve as a Klingon, he would still get up there and tell you how wonderful of a game it is.

It got bad enough, that it's the first time in my life I rage quit the forums.

If you want to play federation, then there might be some benefit from the game. But as a klingon, it is all about the grind.

Still, there is supposed to be exploration in this next expansion. It's just that I am not a huge cryptic fan after City of Heroes. And so far they have not done anything to change my mind.

But I do recommend watching Jupiterbroadcasting.com.  Just bring some asprin when you face plant into the desk - as Chris defends the farce.

Yes Jermey and Brian are also fanboys,  but they will atleast tell the whole story.

The power of LORE

I have been giving Eve alot of time. That meant I was behind on my STO work. With the girls tonight wanting to watch Running Wild movie with Brooke Shields. That left me free to work on grinding Cardassians.

As soon as I log in though, I get a fleet invite. We are disorganzed, and chaotic. I felt like LeRoy Jenkins about every fight. Kept asking for Primary, and no response. But over all it was fun. More fun than grinding. So what do you know, being part of a team is more fun then soloing. Who would have Thunk IT.

He invited me to his guild (called houses in STO). It is named LORE, the only requirement is that my biography has to have the character Lore in it. For those not caught up on Star Trek mythology, Lore is the brother to Data. He is full of emotion and is very dangerous.

Basically, Lore broke my character out of the collective and now I fight for Lore. The head honcho liked it. I thought it was cheesy. So my main requirement is done.

Special thanks to:
shi'tok - leader of LORE
stopbit - he is a zerger
shadowpoet - he kept trying to heal me... man that was a chore
Ibkeffer - congrats on your new ship.

Cardassians love grinding

Made Captain rank 2 last night. STO / Klingon pve is all about the grind.

When starting out against the Federation they are +3s and are pretty doable. You get to grind your way up to  Lt Commander 7 before you swing to the next group. Romulans. They also are +3 to start out with.

13 levels later you get what seems the final grind with Cardassians. +5s to start out with. And those 2 extra levels are a killer. I have just now gotten to the level that is the beginning of the other two levels.

My problem now is my waning desire to grind another 9 levels to get my carrier. But with a life time subscription I know I will.

My goal is 1 set of the 3 required to finish a quest, per day. It takes me about an hour.

Overall STO has not really been anything but an active grind. Cryptic promises story to klingons, but truelly thier focus is for the Fed players.
